Frequently asked questions

What is the Malvern College Green Giving Day?

Malvern College Green Giving Day is an exciting 36-hour online giving event. We are asking the whole Malvernian community of alumni, staff, parents, pupils and friends to join in supporting this initiative.  It will kick-start a brand new Sustainability Fund and accelerate the College’s journey to net zero by 2050.

Thanks to the generosity of early stakeholders, there are thousands of pounds waiting to be unlocked in the form of matched funding, so every gift up to a certain limit will be doubled and means your gift will go even further.  There will also be giving challenges to meet along the way, unlocking even more funding.

Our very first Malvern College Green Giving Day will commence at 9am BST on Tuesday 20th June and will run for 36 hours until 9pm BST on Wednesday 21st June 2023. Please join us, wherever you are in the world, and help make a difference at Malvern College. Every gift, from every person counts and we would love you to be part of our net zero journey!

What difference will my donation make?

Your gift will help Malvern College build a more sustainable future for all who study and work here. All gifts, whatever size they may be, add up. Having a large number of donors encourages others to support us too. So, whatever you can give, you can be sure that your contribution is effective and greatly appreciated.

How do I get involved?

There are lots of things you can do to get involved and help us on our way.  Importantly, please go to our Donate page and make a gift! Every gift counts, no matter how big or small. You can also share your support on social media using #MalvernGreenGiving or by tagging us @malverniansociety, and you can also ask your Malvern friend and your family to take part too.

How will my donation be used?

Every donation received for Green Giving Day will go directly to Malvern College’s new Sustainability Fund. Initially, this will fund important retrofits and upgrades to Main Building and the boarding houses to make them more environmentally sustainable.

How can I make a gift?

We want to make it easy for you to participate in Green Giving Day, and gifts can be given a variety of ways:

Online: The easiest way is through the Malvern College Green Giving Day website (the site you are currently on). You will be able to see your donation straight away on the Green Giving Day Donor Wall and your name may encourage your friends to give too!

By post: Cheques should be made out to 'The Malvernian Society Ltd' and should be sent to: Green Giving Day, c/o Malvernian Society, Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 3DF.

Malvernian Society Office: You can contact us at malsoc@malverncollege.org.uk or call +44 (0)1684 581517 and we’ll be delighted to help you make your gift by credit or debit card over the phone.

All donations will be paid to The Malvernian Society Ltd, which is a registered charity (no 527573). The Society exists to support Malvern College and its pupils.

Is there a minimum donation?

The minimum online gift is £1.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. All payments through the Malvern College Giving Day website will be securely processed by a payment system called Stripe www.stripe.com/gb/privacy.

You will receive an email receipt and your gift will be recognised on the Green Giving Day Donor Wall on this website.

Why is my payment not going through?

We are sorry you are experiencing a problem in making your gift. Some common errors include incorrect card details, an incorrect postcode/zip code or it not matching the address linked to your payment card. Please check that you have included your postcode in both the address field and the card details field of the gift form.

Please double check before you contact us. If you continue having problems making your gift online, please contact us at malsoc@malverncollege.org.uk or call (0)1684 581517 (office hours).

Is my gift eligible for Gift Aid?

Yes! If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to include a Gift Aid declaration as this will increase the value of your donation by 25% (25p for every £1 or £250 for every £1,000) as we can reclaim this amount from HMRC.

I live in the USA. Can I give tax-effectively?

Donors living in the USA can donate to Green Giving Day and qualify for a US tax deduction by donating through the British Schools and Universities Foundation, Inc (BSUF). The Malvernian Society is registered with the BSUF, which is a charitable organisation recognised by the US Internal Revenue Service under Section 501 (c) (3). When asked to indicate the name of the Approved Institution you would like to benefit from your gift, please enter the words: ‘The Malvernian Society Limited’. If you give today through the BSUF, please let us know so we can add this to the Green Giving Day total.

Can I see my gift on this website?

All gifts will appear on the Green Giving Day Donor Wall on the day.  You may choose whether to appear as Anonymous on the Donor Wall or to exclude the amount of your gift.

I have an additional question. How can I get in touch?

Please feel free to email us via malsoc@malverncollege.org.uk or call +44 (0)1684 581517 (office hours).
